Jerusalem is a city of peace

That is how the name of the holy city, the cradle of the three religions of the world, is translated. Judaism, Christianity and Islam are a combination of traditions, cultures, nationalities. Such a game of contrasts is characteristic of all of Israel. She gives him a special captivating charm.

Geography and History
Jerusalem is located in the heart of the country, 700 meters above sea level. It is located on the slope of the Jews over 30 centuries ago. Empires changed, the city was conquered and destroyed 80 times, but was reborn again and again, like a Phoenix bird.

The city belonged at different times to Judea, Macedonia, Syria, Egypt, Ancient Rome, Byzantium and many other civilizations, each of which added its own touch to the portrait of the city.

Jerusalem today has two parts – the Old and the New City, the boundaries between which are gradually erased. According to the census, the number of inhabitants of Jerusalem exceeded more than 700 thousand inhabitants.

sights
The old city is conditionally divided into four territorial sectors: Jewish, Christian, Armenian and Muslim.

In the Jewish quarter is the only surviving part of the Temple of Solomon – the Wailing Wall. Every day, thousands of prayers are raised near her from the lips of believers who have come here, who mourn for the destroyed shrine, pray for Israel and the restoration of its former greatness.

Every year, thousands of believers go on the Way of the Cross, repeating the route that Jesus walked, heading to the place of their execution. The road of suffering ends with the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the greatest shrine of all Christians.

On the Temple Mount, or what the Muslims call this mountain, Haram al-Sharif, there is Al-A Ksa Mosque. This is the largest, third most important, Muslim shrine.

Here you can admire the unique architecture of the building – “Dome of the Rock”.
